Whether exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or making the world a better place, these women represent the very essence of science fiction. This series uses material from the Great Schools of Dune trilogy, by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. A prequel to the original Dune, it tells the story of how the Rossak Brotherhood evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valya Harkonnen using the voice comes from the one called “Mentats of Dune”. The three books intertwine the development of the Sisterhood, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Suk Doctors. Mentioned in Crazy Cartoon Cast: The New Normal (2020) by AniMat. This spin-off is more like Game of Thrones than Dune. That said, Dune: Prophecy is everything I hoped it would be and more. It’s a fantastic spin-off of a beloved film franchise. I have to start by saying that I’ve never read the source material or seen the original film. My experience with Dune is based on the two Dune films that came out in recent years starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. Both of those films (particularly Dune: Part Two) are two of my favorite films that I’ve seen in recent years. I love them both, so I had high expectations for this series. Dune: Prophecy is a series that takes place 10,000 years before the Dune films begin and tells the story of how the Harkonnen sisters founded the Bene Gesserit as a fighting force that threatens the future of humanity. The series may seem more Game of Thrones than Dune, but regardless… it’s a lot of fun. The most important thing about this series is that it does exactly what it sets out to do, which is to deepen our understanding of the Bene Gesserit. You don’t need to have seen both Dune movies to enjoy it, but you’ll certainly enjoy it more if you have.
