In 1950s Mexico City, an American immigrant in his late forties lives a lonely life in the midst of a small American community. However, the arrival of a young student forces him to finally establish a meaningful relationship with someone. In the end, it was Daniel Craig who convinced Luca Guadagnino to cast Drew Starkey after watching an audition tape with Guadagnino and telling him "This is the guy" after seeing Starkey… William Lee: Sit on Your Ass! The main reason is that the film was too abstract and felt like a stream of consciousness. The overall message is about the loneliness of a strange heart, the difficulty of connecting with others, the pain of lack of love, and the exploration of the complex emotions of depression. But the performance technique is very self-conscious, especially the last 20 minutes, which have almost no lines and are entirely dedicated to expressing the inner world of the male protagonist through various blurs, hallucinations, and abstract art forms. Although I understood what the director wanted to express, the form of expression may not be acceptable to the public, and at one point I wanted to leave the scene.
